Abstract: Delforge, P. & Gvaudan, A.- Taxonomical and nomenclatural contribution to the Epipactis leptochila species group [Natural. belges 83 (Orchid. 15) (2002): 19-35]. Owing to new data recently published about the genetic structure of Epipactis leptochila s.l. populations in Europe, the taxonomic status of two taxa from the E. leptochila species group, i.e. the Epipactis from Holy Island known as Epipactis peitzii H. Neumann & Wucherpfennig var. sancta P. Delforge and Epipactis neglecta (Kmpel) Kmpel is reconsidered. The taxonomical history of these two taxa is reviewed. The morphological and genetical originality of the Holy Island Epipactis is enough well marked so that it can be proposed as a new species named Epipactis sancta (P. Delforge) P. Delforge. On the opposite, the populations attributed to E. neglecta share the same genotype as E. leptochila s. str., so that E. neglecta, distinguishable only by some minor morphological features, must be considered as a variety of E. leptochila. Consequently, the illegitimate combination Epipactis leptochila (Godfery) Godfery var. neglecta (Kmpel) A. Gvaudan is here validated.
