Abstract. P. Delforge & Van Looken, H. - Note on the presence of Ophrys sphegodes Miller 1768 in the department of  Hˇrault (34, France) [Natural. belges 80 (Orchid. 12) (1999): 113-119, 278]. The description or recognition of new taxa in the Ophrys sphegodes complex has brought a certain wavering in taxonomy and a great uncertainty in the knowledge of distribution of O. sphegodes s. str. Research in the South of France has revealed that numerous Ophrys usually identified as O. sphegodes represent in fact e.g. O. arachnitiformis with green sepals, O. provincialis, O. passionis or O. incubacea. The present note gives an account of recent observations of O. sphegodes s. str. in the department of Hˇrault (34), near the limit of Aveyron (12). Remarks are also made about considerable damage caused by modern agricultural practices to the major biological sites of that region.
